The Merriam-Webster 2023 word of the year is ‘gaslighting.’ Okay, that’s a minefield, so let’s focus on a different designation for 2023 that is a bit more fun to chat about, the Pantone Color of the Year, Viva Magenta! And we couldn’t be more ready for this kind of year.
Magenta represents “universal harmony and emotional balance,” and you can’t help but feel cheerful and motivated when you see passionate red tempered with the calm energy of violet. Whether you wear it, sip it, or decorate with it, pinkish-purple just makes you smile, right?
I reached out to one of my design colleagues, Megan Daughtry of Proud House Studio, and here’s what she said about the color of the year, “Viva Magenta is bold, brave, and energetic. This color can be a pop of joy in a neutral room, or alongside neutral brushed gold or silver. It can also complement other pinks or the dark green, blue, and teal colors we have been obsessing over the past few years.”
She goes on to describe how she sees designers and DIY decorators using this color. “The texture chosen will change this color dramatically. A velvet material will translate as soft and luxurious and work well as a headboard, throw pillow, or armchair. A shiny or glossy finish on a glass vase or silk lampshade will reflect light and tone down the cool pink undertone. Soft cotton or linen in towels, a shower curtain, or a rug will also quiet the vibrancy of Viva Magenta.”
Designers are loving this bold color, but why does a real estate agent care about color?
Buying a home is an emotional experience, and the colors in your home create a powerful impact, one way or the other. I work with various design colleagues to aid in my client’s home preparation for sale, to create suggestions for my buyers to imagine renovations while shopping, and to produce a luxury staging experience. In the end, we want to create a consistent and pleasant showing experience, aligning the color with the feel and design of your home. And if we can add a fun magenta pop of color this year, even better!
